43 of the 44 votes against Johnson went back to Kevin McCarthy and there are
accusations that he, or his supporters, are organizing opposition against these
other nominees.

getting key votes who defected to other people in previous votes. He might have
it wrapped up. We’ll know shortly. Currently 176 to 155, Johnson to Jeffries,
with no defections on either side. None of the other votes made it this far
without enough defections to block the nominee. Looking inevitable at this

Mccarthy made it a while before stabbing everyone in the back and becoming the first speaker ever voted out
Scalise didn’t make it out of their closed door voting
Jordan got humiliated 3 times and withdrew
Emmer also lost
Now we’re onto Mike Johnson, and I don’t see him making it either

It’s amazing how low the House has fallen. It’s always been dysfunctional, but this seems like a new low point. The question is “Is it THE low point? Or is it simply A low point?”
I’ll have to admit, I’m surprised Mike made it
Now all his insane views have come to light though, we’ll see how well he can actually wrangle the party and work with dems (since any legislation has to pass the senate/president)
I loved how on one of the votes someone voted for Boehner…
But yeah, anything they pass on party lines is dead in the Senate and even it weren’t, they can’t overcome a veto.
