State 49 - Wisconsin

Schlitz Audubon Nature Center - Milwaukee, WI

Wow, great job Wisconsin. This may be the first state where I had SO many choices of who to pick to feature. I easily found 3 places to go see owls and raptors, and I’m sure there’s more. I decided to feature this one, as it’s the only one that seems to be open year round. I may just post the others today to since they all have some great things about them.

Baron got a nasty bonk from a car that claimed his right eye, but now he is a happy and healthy education ambassador.

I hope you all still find Baron Von Screech to be superb. I don’t typically highlight owls with obvious injuries in case it would upset someone, but his name and profile pic were just too cute.

Also, it does highlight the main reason most of these places exist, as animal rescues and rehab centers. Us getting to visit us just a nice bonus. Looking at the patient sheets from the rescue yesterday, it seemed only around 30% of animals brought in were able to be saved. It has to be tough for the people that work there. It also makes the ones like Baron Von Screech even luckier, since they were lucky enough to go on to live a good life, thanks to the dedication of the staff, and the people that donate time and money and supplies to these rehabs.

So that’s why I still think he’s superb. BVS is a survivor, with a great team of people that helped get him there.

What do you think? Do you mind these pics? Are they inspiring? Or an owl is an owl, they’re all just as good?
