Hamas has been building bunkers under some locations at these camps. Israel did give warning.

Hope you’re getting paid to post, because increasingly it’s falling on deaf ears. The world can see what’s happening.

No but the celebration of Hamas here is embarrassing. Most of the world knows of the reality in the ground. Lemmy is not typical of most views.

No one is celebrating Hamas. In a just world they wouldn’t exist because Israel would welcome Palestinians as Semitic brothers and they would live and work together. Lemmy may not hold the same views of society, but increasingly the world is seeing the truth. Join us November 4 at the National March on Washington to Free Palestine.

It’s possible to denounce both Israeli leadership and Hamas. Killing civilians is bad, and the people doing it are murderers. This is not a controversial take, and it’s weird that it doesn’t seem to have occurred to many people. Terrorist attacks are bad, and so are retaliatory escalations to genocide.

Except for the just part on Lemmy everytime there are civilian deaths, the posts are but but but Israel. Hamas uses civilians as shields. Hamas does not give two shits about Palestine other than the power they hold. The civilians voted for them in 2008 but it will take the civilians to forcefully remove them. That will result in a great number of civilian deaths unless Israel helps target then as well. That is the reality.

I must not be understanding what you’re trying to say because it sounds like you’re justifying Israel killing Palestinian civilians on the basis that it could alter the results of a democratic election. And I’m not defending Hamas in the slightest. Quick correction though: Hamas won their election in 2006, not 2008, and they won very slightly (3% plurality and not the majority). Additionally, they indefinitely postponed the following scheduled election that was supposed to take place in 2021.

So even if we somehow forgot or ignored that intentionally killing civilians is a blatant war crime, you’d still be wrong in your point that killing civilians is okay because it would affect the election such that Hamas would be voted out. They aren’t doing any more elections because they know they’d lose and they know that they have the power to just decide to not do them anymore. Hamas is literally recognized as a terrorist organization by many groups including the EU and the US.

Two wrongs don’t make a right. Israel retaliating by killing Palestinian civilians doesn’t solve the problem; it escalates it. And I worry that Israel will be permitted to continue all the way up to their end goal of fully eradicating Palestine, both in terms of people and land. I implore you to educate yourself more on the century-long conflict before continuing to spread disinformation, willfully or otherwise.

Israel is not targeting civilians intentionally, unlike Hamas. But they knowingly do realize civilians will be killed in certain attacks against Hamas. You might not agree that is acceptable but it is not a war crime and the reality is that this is always a likely possibility when you have enemies and terrorist groups that use human shields. Particularly when that group is also the defacto government of said country.
