I’ve never watched the show, but the books are great and I’ve been reading through them for the first time recently. Just know before you get into it that the author very notoriously hasn’t finished the series in like… 20 years, haha. There are 2 more planned books but the last came out in 2011.
I’d love to be wrong here but I’m convinced that man is going to his grave without writing another word for it. Which is fair, he’s written over 1.7 million words in ASOIAF according to Wikipedia.
Good point, I suppose more accurately I am convinced he won’t publish any more in the main ASOIAF storyline. If I’m wrong I get to be pleasantly surprised.

It seems likely, but he at least has chosen two people that get to take it over in that case who both know what he has planned.

He seems to start over all the time when writing. So maybe he is writing everyday but never to completion.
