At least for the next few years, I am pretty firm on needing a jack on my device.

I am currently using an LG v60, and while nice, it’s starting to show its age.

Any suggestions on where to go next?

I was looking at the ROG phone, and while it does seem very nice, I feel like it is a bit much as I don’t game on my device at all.

Are there any good phones I should be looking at?

Thanks!

    Sony Xperia phones?

Not sure if you can still get a Samsung A52s. That’d be a nice pick if you still can get it. It’s what I use and it’s one of the few with the trifecta of features I was looking for: 3.5mm jack, memory card slot, and OIS in the main camera.

I’m hoping the EU’s new battery law will mean all countries will get Sony Xperias with removable batteries, though I realize it’s probably too much to expect.

I’ve actually heard really good things about this.

Just wasn’t sure about if the SD865 was already feeling sluggish to me, the Samsung midrange would feel even slower.

I don’t find it slow, it does what I want.

Think about it, easily 70% of the world’s smartphone users are on something like a Snapdragon 600 series or lower, and they use it as a main computing device; it may not be blazing fast but it’ll get the job done.

          That’s true.

Do you know if the A5 can use Good Lock for customization?

My A50s does, I think Good Lock generally supports all OneUI Galaxy phones.

I am due for an update of that phone but I’ll cling to it for a little longer. The battery is probably at half the capacity it use to have, the USB-C slot has become flimsy and the chip was never great to begin with, but I haven’t found a convincing form factor yet (compact, lowish price, micro-SD and headphone jack for under 400€).

I am eyeballing the Sony Xperia 1 V. It’s expensive and probably overkill for me, but it’s got a headphone jack AND expandable storage.

They took my sliding keyboard, then my headphone jack, I won’t budge on my expandable storage.

While Sony is a company that will keep around features from the good old days, like SD Card slot and the Headphone Jack, they also keep around the 2, maybe 3 years of software updates promise and I don’t think that’s acceptable in 2023 especially with a 1400 USD phone they’re about to sell.

I’m using Xperia 5 IV and other than the price and lack of auto camera, I really like it. The software update is quite fine I suppose - I get the 1st of month update at the end of the month (compared to 5th of month at the middle of the month on Pixel). At worse the updates are 3 months late after major version upgrade. The lack of commitment get me a bit worried, but this is my first Sony phone after using Google phones since Nexus One so I’ll wait to see its EOL first. It also severely overheats in a Devilcase, while taking video I found the app shut down abruptly and in normal usage it does get hot too.
