I just read the first two chapters of an unofficial and only so-so translation of the novel, and that filled in a lot of the details. There are still some things I’m not sure of, but it’s an intriguing set-up.
Edit: up to chapter 6 now in the manga, and this is terrific.
I love the balance - the way that first Emi got her chance to save Remilia, and was perfectly equipped for it right up until the point that the Star Maiden appeared, and then Remilia got her chance to save Emi, and is perfectly equipped for it.
On to the next chapter…

I personally love it, and wish an official translation of the (very short) novel would come out.
