Vertical farming, the best solution to support an ever growing population or just a scam?
IMHO it has a lot of potential but not being able to grow grains really is something that should be tackled sooner rather than later. But I could see this being used by self sustaining communities to provide lots of food while using very little space. And it’s technically more environmentally friendly than just using vast stretches of land to produce the same amount of food.

Vertical farming isn’t a plastic hanging basket; that’s gardening.
Vertical farming is the concept of using underutilized office space or even building a specific building for large-scale hydroponics. It’s used heavily already in various places where space is at a premium and you want to lock down your inputs and outputs.
It uses a pile of energy compared to flatland farming since you have to supply the light, heat and a massive building with infrastructure for water and light.
"supply the light "
This is pretty big. Putting plants on opposite sides of the means, at best, each plant would only get 1/2 a day’s sunlight outside. The light needed for this would be based on vertical lengths of plant rows rather than just floorspace
