I’m not a retail manager, but it wasn’t so long ago that I worked in retail myself.
What I take great pleasure in doing is hassling customers who are hassling employees. I don’t care if the employee is 16 or 60. Maybe that employee has a manager who will fire them for talking back, but that manager can’t do much to me when I put on my Large, Unpleasant Man persona and tell Kyle/Karen to grow up. It usually works instantly, because they’re embarassed. Their reedy little complaining voice can’t be heard more than a few feet away, but I can be heard all the way at the back of the Wal-Mart, and now there’s a scene.
Gods, one of the very scarce benefits of being a fucking sasquatch over the years has been the ability to shut idiots the fuck up just by looming and saying “do we have a problem here?” in a deep voice.
