We are very close to the end of 2023, but the inexorable march of time grinds ever forward. With that, comes a new weekly general thread. Feel free to exercise your right to free speech (within the rules) to talk about manga here! Some example comments might look like:

  • I know the plural of manga is manga, but would it be wrong to say mangatachi?
  • Where do you think Inukai-san learned how to take care of her dog? Is there a prequel manga or spinoff I can check out?
  • My friends at school said they were going to go check out a literal hole in a wall that was shaped lika a person, but I haven’t heard from them since. Should I be worried?

Like normal, please be careful with spoilers. I wrote a guide about spoilers in case you need a refresher on how to handle them (also linked in the sidebar).

As I mentioned over in the anime general thread this week, I have been quite sick in the past week. As I have had less energy to read tons of dialog boxes, I found myself working through the backlog of Akebi-chan. There are huge portions of that series that has zero dialog and just does extensive animating of dynamic sequences. An example of what I am talking about is in the beach chapter (chapter 32) I read recently. Out of the first 21 pages of the chapter, just 3 have dialog.

I used to live near a fairly big art supply store, and in that store, they sold books that contained photographs of models doing tons and tons of different poses. This was so that prospective artists could use the pictures in the book as reference for their work. That is what Akebi feels like sometimes, just a big collection of artwork of these characters rather than a story.

Just as an aside, Akebi comes from some good genes. Her parents are drawn pointlessly attractive. For reference, her mother and her father.
