My tendency seems to be owning my own business and freelancing until I die (until I get stable enough to build my own products). I’ve been trying to connect with more business-minded people–“average of 5 people” type of mentality. Currently it seems that the only way of doing this is LinkedIn.
But obviously, LinkedIn is creepy.
Any other people think this? How having a federated business networking platform would be awesome?
They state very plainly that they sell your data to advertisers.
I post there weekly (often blog articles I publish to provide value for people), I have thousands of connections (a lot of CEOs) over the past 7 years I’ve been on there and I have yet to make a connection that ends in even meager work. The paranoid of me thinks that it’s keeping me in a bubble because it’s cheaper to keep me in need.
Set your profile to open to work if you haven’t. That makes all the difference in the world.
Thanks. I have it set to open for work, and I’ve had literally the words “open to work” in all my social media profiles (including linkedin) in case someone missed it 😆. I’m getting tired of seeing green. 🤢
Damn. Mileage may vary I guess. My messages are flooded with people wanting to speak about job opportunities.
I think I did for a while. 99% of the time they ghosted. Most times they’d want to siphon me through a hazing ritual–sorry, I mean hiring process. I’m like, sorry dude, either hire me for a job or don’t. So I think recruiters have kind of given up.
Don’t hear much anymore. I think because I’ve also made my profile match more what a CEO or other higher up would find attractive (hopefully). Instead of “JavaScript expert” I put something like “I’ll make sure your tech stack beats out the competition and wins!” or similar sentiment in my LinkedIn headline.
Sounds like the dating app business model.
