Its amazing. Open World Survival games are like the video game version of isekai anime: there are infinity of them, and the vast majority are bland garbage.
The concept is appealing, and I don’t think it will ever go out of style. So long as the game is fun, then who cares if there is a sea of garbage other ones? The good ones will be found quickly, and the bad ones will be dropped quickly.
Survival is an especially tricky genre because all of the mechanics need to work well in tandem. If any of them are badly designed or too demanding, it can wreck the enjoyment of the entire game.
Most games get around this by making the survival mechanics so easy you can basically ignore them after the first hour, leading to the bland experience you described. Very few properly integrate them into the whole gameplay loop and keep them a major factor as the game progresses.
There are so many open world survivals. This is making me think of pivoting, or scrapping my own project

It is amazing, and the idea is endless fun I love them. Just competing in a saturated market with no name and all that can be rough.
