It seems to be working for me. Fediverse apps don’t need to nessesarily be popular with the general public in order to be useful to us in nichie communities.
I’ve got mixed feelings about that, become on one hand yes, the fediverse is probably more enjoyable and fun now, before it goes “mainstream”, but on the other hand the internet has been made up of 5 websites for far to long and that desperately needs to change,
And not just foreaarly adopters
