Tatooine has some cool history that i wish they explored. (Anyone more knowledged, please clarify).
Tatooine used to be a lush green planet. Something happened, like 10,000+ years bby ago, that cut off the planet from the force. Turning it into a lifeless desert planet. The planet has inferior metals. There’s no reason for anyone to be living there.
Even though it’s cut off from the force, something still draws everything to the planet…
(OOC, it’s just cheaper to film in the desert than building a set, as said before)

I thought Knights of the Old Republic took place around -10k BBY. It was very much a desert planet in that game.
Kotor is around 4k bby. That’s why i said 10k. Becuase i wanted to give it time for it to convert to a desert, while also still having the cave.

I thought the Rakata glassed Tatooine?
I’ve never heard that. Could be deep lore i just havent heard. I would love to explore more.
