  • Not specifically trying to wade into politics so I will keep it middle-road.

    background

On tuesday, the US federal government posted a video through their immigration enforcement agency (named ICE) featuring the Pokemon Theme song and using the slogan “gotta catch them all” when referring to catching illegal immigrants. They also featured several mugshots as Pokemon cards using the “make a Pokemon card editor” I’m sure we’ve all played with.

Nintendo has, in the past, been very litigious of Pokémon, as they own GameFreak. It came as a bit of a shock when the official statement was that they were not going to do anything. Many people feel that if the current administration was not rebuked properly for the use of Pokemon, it may feel emboldened to begin using other IPs for its marketings.

Additionally, Nintendo branding has come under some…less than positive light between pokemon game issues, lawsuits of palworld, the negativity around the recent “summon and battle” patent, and more even against the very strong sales of the Switch 2 and games. On paper Nintendo of America is doing very well and is profitable, but there may be boardroom drama.

My suspicion is that Doug Bowser of Nintendo US and Nintendo Japan obviously covered these topics in meetings. My statement is that he may just be tired of arguing with the Japan office as a whole and is ready, after only a decade, to retire.

My second remark is that marketing people keep getting promoted to CEO, and have a penchant for constant promises that valuation will always go up and they can make more money, forever. It is a lie so many companies believe, and its both not surprising but still upsetting to see yet another marketing person taking the position.

  • I’m wondering if this is due to internal turmoil over ICE. Bowser knowing he will have to navigate more things like this if it goes unanswered, but also a reaction might draw the ire of a government with an entire national budget to fight with, and the back and forth with home office is finally too much pressure.

That said, the new ceo will be the former head of Marketing because of-fucking-course. More “line can go up forever” promises to shareholders.

  • I figured, but also now theres just straight up separate pools I think. When you create an account one of the settings is specifically “looking for friends”. Part of “the game” I’m glad I dont have to race around trying to play anymore tbh. (But yeah no I get totally sucks on the women’s end too for the opposite reason it sucks for men)

  • No I understand the rationale and why this occurs in the way it does, but not the process theyre going about it.

My thought was “surely if there was a larger trend AFTER these hookup patterns there’d be talk of it” but I am not the type of person/near the people who would be affected so I hear nothing and find that…unusual, given how much tea would be spilled back and forth on social media of “paul” recognizing “george” on grindr

  • This generates so many questions it could be a study. I do not have any gay friends, or know of people around me who use Grindr so I guess if someone who does could tell me.

Do these people seek “locals” (nonMAGA) of towns/cities they live, or do they seek other MAGA hidden on the platform? If they’re looking for a non-MAGA partner, do they hide their leanings? Is it just not something discussed during dms before hooking up? Do they often become toxic and try to bully the partner or do they keep quiet and try to blend in with John Everyman? If they look for each other, do they have like…a tell on their profile to help signal to each other to help get swipes? Are they often top/bottom or is the demographic still case-by-case? Do they attend Grindr and mark “looking for friends” or “looking for hookups”? (Women used to use bumble a lot but like 90% of them were always marked as “just looking for friends” rather than hookups on their profiles)

This is the second time I’ve seen this phenomena of grindr spiking in a city where lots of MAGA congregates, but I dont think I’ve ever heard of assaults on homosexuals from maga people specifically after a hookup on grindr, in local/national news

  • I’m usually early to work meetings, so this is usually how it feels till people drag themselves through the door 10 minutes later.

I once had that meeting, sort of

Only been with the boss and HR as a matter of performance once, I stayed for a shift I usually wasn’t on, and a manager I’d never met but only heard was a total hardass was having a shitty day (parent passed, but i had no idea, I’d never met this guy). He passes my workstation, first time meeting the dude, and chews me out for some computer shit. Totally fair - I was on reddit or something on a work computer and policy is not to, then a coworker across the floor does something humerous as manager is walking away. He files a report I laughed at him. I was under the impression I’d been written up for computer misuse the entire hr meeting, so thats what I defended and admitted to. In retrospect, fuck that guy and fuck that workplace, I got a 6 month probationary period for that. I served it no issues, but no wonder they have staffing issues and no wonder no one likes the managers.

  • There was his crashout before Borderlands 2 where Gearbox accepted a boatload of Sega money to help finish Colonial Marines, and instead outsourced the project. Gearbox kept the money in spite of the failure, and allegedly used it as funding for Borderlands 2. (They were sued by Sega for keeping the cash, but later dropped the suit)

He also crashed out during the Borderlands 3 leadup.

Groped the Claptrap VA 6 years ago because he was tired of voicing Claptrap “as a favor” and when offered normal market rates wanted more because Claptrap is iconic. Pitchford cornered him at the hotel elevator, grabbed the VAs junk and said “youre gonna do what I tell you to” -allegedly.

Other than that, about the same time, he left a thumb drive at a Medieval Times that had company secrets and squirt porn on it. Same thumb drive. Brother apparently can’t afford 2 thumb drives to keep his porn separate from his company secrets.

Pitchford is the problem with Gearbox, but as a whole he’s a far cry from being Rockstar or Nestle, so it doesn’t cross people’s Ick threshold to trigger boycotts.
