There’s usually not tapes. But when there are, they’re more likely to be publicly known.
The amount of shit he’s said (in private, at a restaurant like here, etc) that’s as bad or way way worse is probably 1000x more than what’s publicly known. But in this case someone happened to record it, so it got some press.

In this case, it seems he was boldly talking about assassinating Democratic congressman in a public restaurant and someone recorded him.
They aren’t confessing, they are bragging.
