2024 has arrived! For January, the cocktail challenge is Kiwi and Mezcal. The rules are simple, a novel drink using these ingredients, most upvoted (not net votes) wins.

Rule change: winner may pick the next challenge (not the month immediately following, as that’s not enough time to announce, but January winner can pick March challenge, and so on)

Post cocktails as replies to this thread. Post requirements are a photo, a recipe, tasting notes. Replies to recipe posts are allowed.

Enjoy!

February challenge will be a RED drink with a Valentine theme (broadly defined, love or martyrdom). Anything novel and any shade of red, must contain at least three ingredients but can be non alcoholic.

Ok, I will make the first try, please someone make something more interesting!

    Kiwi Ahumado

    1oz kiwi syrup

1oz tequila (Tequila Ocho San Jeronimo)

    1/2oz Midori

    3/4oz Mezcal (Del Maguey Chipicapa)

    3/4oz key lime juice

Mix all ingredients, shake with ice.

Look - Kiwi syrup is ugly! Dull gray green. The Midori and lime help but I would not call this beautiful. The picture is misleading, it doesn’t look that bright to me in real life.

Tasting notes - this is lovely, but not exceptional. Smells like kiwi. Tart on first sip, the smoke of the mezcal is prominent in a good way, toward the top of my mouth. Just sweet enough. The mouth feel is interesting, the kiwi syrup sort of rough from the seeds, the texture slightly thick and very pleasant. The Midori is hidden, it just supports the kiwi, rounds out the fruit flavor.
