Liquid is bad but grain is even more dangerous for a ship. Liquid does this splashing like the article says but grain can get off balanced and then not go back to balance. That imbalance will make the ship list more to one side leading to a greater imbalance leading to more listing issues until the ship inevitably capsizes. To make the problem even worse, you can’t just fill the hold like you do with liquids since grain settles after a while and you’ll always eventually have a gap at the top no matter how full you fill the hold. You need specially constructed ships and better licensing to ship grain safely.
