I recently created this post and put a .gif link in the URL field https://lemmy.world/post/12028828. I noticed that lemmy now uploads an image to it’s server and puts that as the post image.

The problem is that the image it uploads is a static .webm file, it’s not animated like the gif. How can I post an animated gif? Is not possible anymore??

but how do I upload a gif then? The image loses it’s animation when uploaded. The user has to click the image, open it on another tab to see the animation, not all users will do this and they’ll think it’s only a static image.

Please upload it to imgur or directly

but a direct upload makes the gif lose it’s animation, that’s the point of my post

Yeah that is an issue with lemmy. Choose any other serious image hoster and it should work.
