People really need to stop dogpiling on the most popular instances and instead spread themselves out.

I think me and others from reddit included have no idea how this works and signed up to the one we were first introduced to.

Can I ask how you were “introduced” to .world? Just been wondering why that’s the one everyone is moving to atm.

I found .ml over a year ago when I still used reddit. This past week I heard of the reddit controversy and I was curious about alternatives so I went for .ml but then in the sign up page they recommended to sign up on .world… so I did because I like the word.

Then I found out there is a lemmy instance of my country, now I’m considering an account there.

Ah I didn’t realise ml were literally directing people here. That’s…not great! Thanks for the info.

Decentralization is strength on the fediverse.

It also means that small communities of like-minded people can be on instances that are run exactly the way that they want. Maybe some people want to block half the fediverse. Maybe other people want to be wide open. Maybe some people want the communities on their instance to be tightly moderated. Maybe other people prefer having all the posts even the trash posts and let the chips fall where they may.

Unlike with a single Giant instance, everyone can get exactly what they want if we are decentralized.
