Why would I go to a theater to watch a movie I want to see? I’ll get people talking around me, people on cell phones, usually kids and teenagers, and overpriced snacks. There’s no formality with theaters anymore, it’s a place to drop off the kids for a few hours.
I keep hearing this argument, especially on that other link aggregator site. I’m not sure what theaters you are going to, but my local multiplex isn’t that bad with people talking/using their phones and children interrupting. (Although I agree on the overpriced snacks.) Since 2021, I haven’t really had an issue with any of those.
What I usually do is go on opening weekend (Thursday/Friday/Saturday) during an early morning/afternoon screening, they’re usually filled with people who actually want to watch the movie and are less likely to interrupt. And some theaters have membership programs (like AMC’s A-List and Regal Unlimited) where you pay a flat monthly fee for unlimited movies; that’ll usually help cut down on prices, and you can get some discounts on snacks too.
Though I understand not everyone is able to do this, and I completely respect your decision to watch movies at home…as long as it’s on 4K Blu-ray.
Until then, I have an OLED screen, a nice sound system, and a large comfortable couch with tons of popcorn at home. I’d rather watch it there.

How big is your OLED?
Does your sound system support Dolby Atmos?
Do you make your popcorn in the microwave or on the stovetop?

I have the same experience as you. My local theater chain has good seating, plenty of screens for multiple options, people are usually very good at following proper theater etiquette. I know I could watch it at home, but I go for the atmosphere. Sitting there with no other distractions, having a shared experience with strangers…you can’t fully replicate that at home.
It’s a shame not everyone has the same opportunity at their theater.
These only exist at high end which the article probably says. Otherwise I get teenagers talking through the entire movie. Parents who bring their kids then turn on their phones at full brightness
Feel lucky, because your theater experience is different than most. If you have that then you’ve truly found a great theater to go to.
My home setup is 65" OLED with 5.1 setup right now, yes Atmos codec but no extra speakers until I move. Usually microwave, but I’ve been wanting to try stove!
