    That’s probably so it’s easier to see them instead of being hidden on the outside edge of your foot I’m guessing?

        Because the way you probably raise your foot toward you when putting on your socks ends up with that spot pointing toward your eyes.

        As to how that helps before you’ve actually got the sock on, you’ll have to ask the designer.

        I’m not entirely sure. I’ve never had socks that were labeled left and right like that so this is all just my best guess. Maybe they were trying to keep it discreet?
