She’s not Finnish, but Swedish. And yes, she is named like this on purpose. She went through a lot to be here. Her mom was supposed to have puppies, but at 30 days she apparently started having an abortion. So we went to the vet and decided that it can get dangerous for the mom (her name is Monkey) and gave Monkey an injection. We came back for routine x-ray (maybe it was an ultrasound) check after 10 days and they showed us where we could see 2 spines and heads. Monkey simply decided she is having puppies no matter what.
It was the last day this second injection can be given, but as it was quite late in pregnancy, something could get stuck when coming out. And she was going to have only 2 puppies, that wasn’t so much more for us to have at home. So we went home and started preparing for the birth. The day came, with Monkey enjoying the sofa with me. Then another day and another day.
When it was 70, which is about as late as you should wait, she started having faint contractions. And then nothing. Of course it was Friday night. So we went to the only open clinic here (they cost double than others and get extra on top if it is after opening hours). No other choice, had to go there. We thought the puppies didn’t make it and we are just saving the mom. But after midnight they brought a little white puppy tucked in a small blanket. Her brother didn’t make it, apparently he was gone for a day or two and was blocking the birthways. Even though this whole ordeal cost us around 6500Eur, we are very happy we have Sisu. We had a lot of puppies throughout many years we have dogs and all of them were born and raised inside, yet Sisu is special. She will probably stay living in the house all her life, as she never destroyed anything (other puppies usually go out before 3 months of age, due to eating chair legs, walls, all our stuff,…).
Sisu is now 4 months and sweet as ever.
