On Wednesday, JK Rowling implied that Nazis never targeted trans people in Germany, calling it "a fever dream." She doubled down when challenged with sources showing trans persecution in Nazi Germany.
Not that anyone should be surprised, but the TERF Supreme now agrees with nazis.
What does she gain from all this stupidity she puts out? It isn’t gonna gain her any money or new fans.
Btw what’s the point of remaking Harry Potter if she’s still involved? You can’t fix the issues with the series unless you get rid of her.
It’s funny how that series has aged so poorly in the last 20 years, yet people are still talking about how progressive Tolkien was in his characters and writing like 100 years ago.
I think she likes the attention. Plus, she gets to feel like a victim when people are like, “wow, you’re being a huge bitch.” A lot of the ultra-wealthy seem to really love that shit, but since they’re so insulated from reality and consequences, they have to basically create the opportunity to feel that way.
She’s an addict and addicts need to externalize everything so they can blame it on someone else. No need to look at herself when there are trans people to hate and blame.
There’s been debate about the issues in Tolkiens works for decades. Rowling can get fucked but let’s not pretend Tolkien work has never been controversial.
Sure, but the books have held over time. And any controversy in Tolkien is extremely minimal compared to Rowling, her books won’t even exist in 100 years, they’ll be relegated to the adventure books that were popular but problematic and nobody reads
Eh, I think the HP story wouldn’t need her involvement anymore. There are some slight problems in the world, yeah, but aside from the goblins and the house-elves, the books aren’t that problematic so readapting them shouldn’t pose much of an issue, imo.
Also, I don’t think people are talking about Tolkien having been that progressive. His world is fairly well known for bioesssentialism (all orcs are bad, all elves are good, all dwarves are greedy, etc).
They sort of tried getting out of that mold with Rings of Power and it wasn’t received too well. (Although I like the show.)
Every ethnic character in the books is a horrible joke, are there even Latinos or Spanish people in those books or movies? I’m glad they aren’t cause if there was a Latino wizard he’d be called Jose jalapeno, and wears a poncho and hat while shooting fire from his mustache
I mean, I know what you mean. (Cho Chang isn’t impossible as a romanisation of a Chinese name but then her first name would be Chang iiuc).
However, the Sean Finnegan having a “proclivity for pyrotechnics” is completely from the movies. It’s not anywhere in the books. So that’s one stereotype that has — if you’ll forgive the pun — been blown out of proportion.
“Are there even Latinos or Spanish people in those books” is a very American thing to say. First off, because “latin people” already includes Spain, as its not just Latin America, it’s also Latin Europe.
That being said there aren’t that many descriptions of ethnicity either. It’s not something that people speak about as much as I think they do in the States. We don’t have such a segregated history, and Britain has historically distained the American segregation thing. (When in WWII some GI Joes complained about having to drink in the same bar as black soldiers, the Brits said OK and threw out the white guys. The whole thing escalated into an actual bout of infighting with weapons.)
I mean, Hermione’s description could fit a black girl, but JKR didn’t write her as one (despite the tweet of her “approving the idea”). There is at least one instance in which something is described that shows her to be rather white. I don’t remember the specific sentence now though.
So yeah, fuck JKR, but the books really aren’t that racist or bad. There are some problems yeah, but nothing like the hateful garbage JKR has devolved into.

An addict? Any source one that?
