Not that anyone should be surprised, but the TERF Supreme now agrees with nazis.

People truly guided by their conscience never get this rich, because it’s offensive to be this rich without using that money and influence to help someone else.

        This is what’s really sad.

She’s gone from poor, to rich, to the first author to become a billionaire. To giving away so much money she dropped off the billionaire list.

To saying shit things on social media then doubling down over and over and becoming a hateful person.

Even during the writing of the Harry Potter books you can see her ego grow, the influence of editors diminish, and the writing get worse.

At some point she closed down and stopped listening to other people. So what she thinks just gets amplified as it bounces around her mind as she agrees with herself.

Lots of people her ages probably had similar opinions. But what condemns her is the fossilisation of her opinions. As society changes and more of the reality of who the people she condemns comes to light. Her opinions fall further out of step with those who aren’t fossilised in ignorance.

Eh I think that’s just letting her off because she’s a billionaire, when really she’s just a shit person. Taylor Swift donates a lot of her fortune, and in general seems to be a good person. She donated a casual $200k to my cities food bank when she visited recently, and apparently shes been doing that in every city on her tour. Her music has never been subtlety (or not so subtlety) racist either as far as I’m aware.

Taylor Swift seems like a far better person than most billionaires, but the existence of billionaires itself is a moral failing, IMHO. I agree with xantoxis, if you’re truly doing everything you can to help others, it’s impossible to become a billionaire, because you’d never hoard that much resources when they can do so much good for so many others.

Look at someone like Dolly Parton, who would be a billionaire if she didn’t give away so much money. She’s doing it right.

Of course, Rowling, in addition to being a billionaire, is also a cruel, hateful creature, where Taylor is not AFAIK.

I agree with you 110% but I genuinely think Taylor is trying really hard to be like Dolly. I looked it up after the donation here and she’s been doing a lot of donating her wealth the last few years. To the point where she’s worth just (I know it’s still an obscene amount) $1.1B whereas Dolly is worth about $650M. I think she’s just had more time than Taylor to donate her fortune. Taylor could have gotten a book from the Imagination Library when she was a kid.

Wow it’s hard to believe but somewhere at the bottom of that Very Deep Hole™️ is author and former media darling JK Rowling. Strange I know, but she’s still digging down there. Gets the spoil taken away twice a month. Hasn’t been seen in years. Strange times.

She’s still a media darling, but only if you’re British where no one dares report on her spiral into fascism. You’d think she’d gone into hiding after amassing a bajillion british doubloons from harry potter merchandise sales

She’s displaying the behavior of an addict who has fallen off the wagon. Since she’s an addict, I’m guessing she’s back on the sauce.

Edit: from her Twitter, she now says she drinks “only on the weekends” so some classic downward spiral action. She and Elon should get together and enable each other’s drug use.

beyond the usual Fascism on display here, it should be mentioned how the UK has some utterly abysmal Holocaust education (not unlike most of the world nowadays).

the most the average millennial or younger will know about the Nazi regime comes almost exclusively from the boy in striped pyjamas, a book and movie famously criticised by most Holocaust historians for their misleading nature

I’m mid 30s and we studied the Nazis and ww2 in quite a decent depth.

It was very Britain centered admittedly. But it did go into the holocaust in some depth.

What does she gain from all this stupidity she puts out? It isn’t gonna gain her any money or new fans.

Btw what’s the point of remaking Harry Potter if she’s still involved? You can’t fix the issues with the series unless you get rid of her. It’s funny how that series has aged so poorly in the last 20 years, yet people are still talking about how progressive Tolkien was in his characters and writing like 100 years ago.

I think she likes the attention. Plus, she gets to feel like a victim when people are like, “wow, you’re being a huge bitch.” A lot of the ultra-wealthy seem to really love that shit, but since they’re so insulated from reality and consequences, they have to basically create the opportunity to feel that way.

There’s been debate about the issues in Tolkiens works for decades. Rowling can get fucked but let’s not pretend Tolkien work has never been controversial.

Sure, but the books have held over time. And any controversy in Tolkien is extremely minimal compared to Rowling, her books won’t even exist in 100 years, they’ll be relegated to the adventure books that were popular but problematic and nobody reads

Eh, I think the HP story wouldn’t need her involvement anymore. There are some slight problems in the world, yeah, but aside from the goblins and the house-elves, the books aren’t that problematic so readapting them shouldn’t pose much of an issue, imo.

Also, I don’t think people are talking about Tolkien having been that progressive. His world is fairly well known for bioesssentialism (all orcs are bad, all elves are good, all dwarves are greedy, etc).

They sort of tried getting out of that mold with Rings of Power and it wasn’t received too well. (Although I like the show.)

Every ethnic character in the books is a horrible joke, are there even Latinos or Spanish people in those books or movies? I’m glad they aren’t cause if there was a Latino wizard he’d be called Jose jalapeno, and wears a poncho and hat while shooting fire from his mustache

I mean, I know what you mean. (Cho Chang isn’t impossible as a romanisation of a Chinese name but then her first name would be Chang iiuc).

However, the Sean Finnegan having a “proclivity for pyrotechnics” is completely from the movies. It’s not anywhere in the books. So that’s one stereotype that has — if you’ll forgive the pun — been blown out of proportion.

“Are there even Latinos or Spanish people in those books” is a very American thing to say. First off, because “latin people” already includes Spain, as its not just Latin America, it’s also Latin Europe.

That being said there aren’t that many descriptions of ethnicity either. It’s not something that people speak about as much as I think they do in the States. We don’t have such a segregated history, and Britain has historically distained the American segregation thing. (When in WWII some GI Joes complained about having to drink in the same bar as black soldiers, the Brits said OK and threw out the white guys. The whole thing escalated into an actual bout of infighting with weapons.)

I mean, Hermione’s description could fit a black girl, but JKR didn’t write her as one (despite the tweet of her “approving the idea”). There is at least one instance in which something is described that shows her to be rather white. I don’t remember the specific sentence now though.

So yeah, fuck JKR, but the books really aren’t that racist or bad. There are some problems yeah, but nothing like the hateful garbage JKR has devolved into.
