It could be a hidden cave, a simple treasure chest, or even a giant griffin that just wants to create chaos for you and your party of pawns. Combat is easy to understand, and different enough from vocation to vocation that when I get bored with one class, I can easily switch to try something different. It’s not about the destination, but rather the journey. As silly as it sounds, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is all about the friends we made along the way.

Capcom hasn’t reinvented the wheel here, opting instead to deliver the same blend of exploration and monster slaying that they established in 2012 while turning it into a full-on adventure simulator via a sandbox that is capable of generating jaw-dropping moments at every turn. It may not be polished to the degree that I’d like, but I find it impossible to be angry at Capcom when what they’ve delivered carries a level of ambition and seamlessness that needs to be seen to be believed. In a year stacked to the rafters with game-of-the-year-worthy RPGs already, Dragon’s Dogma II is another fantastic addition to what is already becoming a complicated discussion and should not be overlooked.

In a lot of ways, there’s a great game buried under the surface of Dragon’s Dogma 2. All of the components should work together. I’ve never played a game I was so frustrated with, but equally wanted to keep playing. For someone out there, I can guarantee this will be their favorite game ever. I’m sure it checks a lot of boxes for a lot of people looking for something different. I was looking for something different too, but I just feel like there was too much in the way for me to truly enjoy it. I’m still going to give it more time, I’m willing to be wrong, but for now I can’t help but feel disappointed.

It’s a boatload of fun to play, and it manages to make what could be a tiring genre feel fresh and full of life. If you’re looking to hunt some monsters and cast some spells, Dragon’s Dogma II is easily one of the best titles on the market.

It’s still bloody good, despite that.

Capcom is on a roll, almost every single one of their releases has been unanimously praised.
I’m happy for the fans of the IP, I have a few friends who loved DG1 and were waiting for the sequel. I’m also a bit curious about the claims that they improved on the storyline, as it was by far my biggest gripe with the first entry, so much that I never bothered to finish it.
I actually loved parts of the story from 1. Granted, a lot of it was pointless, shallow, needed expansion, better written characters, so on and so forth. But every scene with the dragon was enthralling. A lot of what happened after you beat it was interesting. And idk how to do spoilers here so I’ll be vague, but what happens at the final boss on a second playthrough blew my mind. I had no clue, and it had been hundreds of hours since, so my jaw literally dropped.
The first game had a lot of good ideas for a story and messed up the execution of pretty much all of them but the dragon itself.

Honestly they’ve been on a steady decline in my eyes at least. With each and every new entry they’re becoming more and more like the rest of the Triple-A studios.

Can’t you all complain about games that are out having issues? Like Helldivers 2 and how the lightning gun was shipped in a sorry state and how Arrowhead lied about the flying bugs?
(I kid, this game sounds like a mess and my opinion of Capcom was already pretty bad)
