At the Heinz History Center, there is a sizable display of Mr Rogers.

Mr Rogers’ Neighborhood, which ran from 1968 to 2001, is an iconic children’s show that ran primarily on public broadcasting on WQED in Pittsburgh.

One of the main characters who lived in the Land of Make Believe was X the Owl.

From the official Mr Rogers site:

X the Owl was one of the original puppets from The Children’s Corner, and was named X because he “X-scaped” from a cage. Here’s what he had to say about that: “…my friend and true tame tiger pal, Daniel S. Tiger, let me out of my cage at the county fair…Daniel said to me ‘X SCAPE’ and I said, ‘Well, how about that.’ I flew out and I’ve been his pet ever since and now I live in a tree right next to Daniel’s Clock.”

X was probably one of the first owl characters many of us of those times were exposed to. I have many fond memories of Mr Rogers and his characters.

There wasn’t too much of X in the x-hibit, but I’ll share what they did have.
