The decision to find a “respectful final disposition” for human remains used for a 19th-century book comes amid growing scrutiny of their presence in museum collections.
It was bad for the library to use this book as a cheap and vulgar communication tool. It’s better to destroy it as they did but I’m not comfortable with this idea either. The best solution IMHO would have been to keep it, to preserve it, but to stop using it for anything but research.
