I never did figure out if that “loveforlandlords” subreddit was all meant to be ironic. I think it was a mixture of people clearly making insane things for the lulz, much like this meme, and actual landlords thinking, “YEAH! These people are right!”

IIRC that’s how /r/thedonald started, shitposting trolls slowly being crowded out by actual crazy people.

Idk if it’s true or not, but I heard the recent form of the flat earth movement started out as more of a “challenge and verify everything” movement. It wasn’t that they actually thought the earth was flat, that was just meant to be an example of how they were going to take even the most widely accepted theories and confirm their truth before believing them.

And then it attracted a lot of crazy people who actually thought the earth was flat, and completely changed the movement.

Haha right? There was definitely some actual landlords who didn’t get that it was satire making fun of them on that sub.

I’m so glad I don’t have to deal with landlords anymore.

Yeah, that’s how The_Donald started. Trolls started it, crazies refined it, and seemingly normal angry people turned it mainstream.

Yeah. That was also an unhinged situation. It’s kind of what I expect from Americans now tho.

It ended up being mostly landlords. Poe’s law and all that.
