    Tldr:

Article says Vault tec saying they would drop bombs first means they did.

Which doesn’t make sense. Because the people in that meeting weren’t prepared to launch first.

The guy who created fallout has said since the first game that China launched first. Everything still points to China launching first despite Vault tec being willing to because they thought China wouldn’t.

Maybe China just did it out of the blue, maybe China heard Vault tec was doing it.

Yeah, unless something further is revealed about Cooper Howard’s pre-apocalypse past and his relationship to his wife, it’s hard to imagine his wife would just leave them out there on the day the bombs fell if she was around and knew it was going to happen.

I guess one possibility for next season is she is murdered or dies in an accident, perhaps forced to choose between company loyalty and her family. Cooper is probably smeared for being a communist (thus him doing kids parties and having his daughter along to help) and he loses any kind of insider perspective about what Vault-Tec is up to, so it remains a mystery who shot first from our perspective.

I’m fairly convinced that Cooper’s 200 year long revenge that they mentioned in I think episode 6 or 7 or whatever is targeted towards his I assume ex-wife. Her being the one who suggested to launch the nukes likely destroyed the entire relationship and he decided not to go with her into one of the vaults. She likely did not have much control over the launch anymore at that point either and, being safe herself, ended up nuking him and her daughter basically.

        It’s not just her.

Almost all the people in that room were important in one game or another. They all knew it was going to happen eventually, even “soon”. But not a single one was prepared when the bombs dropped.

It makes sense someone beat them to the punch, and that someone has to be China. Unless some rouge vault like 4 that was already in place did something to start it to ensure their vault would “win”.

All they’d have to do is give China a heads up, they wouldn’t have to launch any nukes themselves

Considering that all the employees in vault 31 are in cryo or little brain robots I’m not so sure about that. It kinda implies that they were very much ready.

Eh, you don’t put 100s of people in cryo overnight.

Like, wasn’t that F4? Some people had went into cyro early to be safe, but the PC has to sprint last second to make it in?

Even among the general population, people seemed to know it was coming soon, just not that day.

No idea, I only played F3 a very long time ago, and the very beginning / intro of NV. But I feel that would only prove my point further because they clearly did not get surprised by a foreign launch if they were already in the vault but already preparing for it, which would be hard to do since they likely did not have knowledge of a possible Chinese launch long in advance. The whole cold war state of getting nuked was going on for quite a long time in that universe so that feeling was already there anyway. I don’t think they strictly stated that they nuke themselves either, Vault-Tec might’ve just attacked China with them, which then retaliated due to MAD and became the scapegoat.
