“The two Iranian officials said the weapon had struck an S-300 antiaircraft system at a military base in the nearby province of Isfahan. The officials’ account is supported by satellite imagery analyzed by The New York Times, which showed damage to the radar of an S-300 system at the Eighth Shekari Air Base in Isfahan.”

“It was unclear what sort of weapon struck the Iranian air defense system. Three Western and two Iranian officials confirmed on Friday that Israel had deployed aerial drones and at least one missile fired from a warplane.”

“Neither the missile nor the aircraft that fired it entered Jordanian airspace, the Western officials said, a gesture meant to keep the kingdom out of the conflict after it helped shoot down Iranian weapons last week.”

“Neither the missile nor the aircraft that fired it entered Jordanian airspace, the Western officials said, a gesture meant to keep the kingdom out of the conflict after it helped shoot down Iranian weapons last week.”

But it did go over Iraqi airspace. Why does that not matter?

Edit: Any of you folks downvoting me care to tell me why it doesn’t matter?

Because Jordan had an active role in shooting down Iranian drones and missiles while Iraq did not.

I think the political situation with Jordan is a bit more complicated than with Iraq. Jordan and Israel have a peace treaty, but are definitely not allies. At least that’s my understanding.

Because Iraq, by not preventing Iranian military action in their airspace implicitly has made it part of the war zone - same way Lebanon & Syria allowing Hezbollah to use their territories for military action has made their territories part of the war zone.

I’m pretty sure it’s because Iraq was already completely destroyed by America and they have no fucking defenses at all to do anything to Israel even if they wanted to

But that doesn’t mean that the sovereignty of their air space should be ignored. Just that America doesn’t give a shit.

If we ever nuke China or Russia, do you think we’re worried about the airspace we’re using?

I get it as a principled point, but I think you’re missing what’s happening here. And deniability and/or inability to knock the missile down… It flies.

Because it simply doesn’t matter. What is Iraq going to do? Nothing.

You mean did they disclose the secret route they took that enabled to evade the air defenses ? No idea why they wouldn’t want to tell the enemy that. Maybe they should file flight plans with Iran next time.

I don’t think it’s a secret that you have to cross Iraq to get to Iran from Israel.

Yet you are asking. Also no you don’t have to cross Iraq.

You can fly through turkey or Saudi as well.

I suppose… if you wanted to take a very indirect route from Israel.
