Weird, might be geofenced? Worked for me directly.
It looks like possibly a response to Firefox being in Resist Fingerprinting mode maybe? I first tried it on my desktop but just now when I tried it on my phone, it works fine. (Either that or some geofence or time limit expired, yes.)
If you use Firefox, you can use the reader view. Sometimes it works as a workaround for paywalls. See more about it here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-reader-view-clutter-free-web-pages
