Square Enix has announced that it will be shutting down two mobile games, Engage Kill and Full Metal Alchemist Mobile, in March.

I don’t know the games, but I know nothing of value was lost.

First one sounds much like the current era of uninspired squenix titles with two words in all black with a horizontal line or two on a white background. The second sounds like a brand leeching cash grab.

Good. The less of this gacha shit around, the better for the market.

I don’t see how they think mobile games are profitable. The market is so saturated and the games are all very samey with the same daily log in bullshit.

They are way cheaper to make and if they get popular, it’s a constant revenue stream like FFXIV

It’s because of China and the Asian market in general. It’s beyond huge for mobile games. Even the crappiest piece of shit you could imagine will probably make money in that market if advertised in the right way.

Yu-Gi-Oh Cross Duel suffered the same fate. Dead not one year after release.

Now it’s in the hands of a custom server, barely usable thanks to DRM that was hard to bypass.

taking yugioh mobile really blurs the lines between yugioh videogames and the actual card game too much for my taste
