Recently found myself in a position where I’m facing a 2-3 day RTO. Definitely wary of a situation where they’re forcing us back to 5 days.
Feels like it’s becoming more and more common for companies to force a return to office. I’ve seen everything from an initial 2-3 day hybrid situation to 5 days a week, even for those who’ve been remote for so long. Would love to hear about others’ experience.
I’m in the same boat, 2-3 days RTO when previously my employer was so ✨hybrid/remote friendly ✨ (and now they’re even threatening the status of those workers who are currently remote)
I’m becoming so disenchanted with employers. Taking attendance doesn’t make me feel like a competent adult they trust to do my job :(
Ugh, yeah I really don’t understand the shift back. The only thing I can attribute it to is management feeling they need to keep an eye on “productivity” or otherwise justify their expensive buildings.
When will they learn they can just save the money on real estate to just throw events or, gasp, pay everyone which would make people way happier?
I have been required 2x/week since July 2021. My wife is going to be required 1x/week starting late summer or early fall, then 2x/week sometime next year, and possibly 3x/week down the road depending on what position she has within her company.
Oh dang, since 2021? I’ve been fortunate enough to be remote since 2020 but that all changed this year with my new position.
Hopefully it’s not too bad of a commute for y’all. Going from no commute to 40-50 mins each way for me has been an adjustment to say the least.
It hasn’t been awful. The nice thing about having a commute again is that it gives me some alone time where I can be alone with my thoughts or listen to whatever i want to without bothering anyone.
That’s good! I feel ya on that - it’s been kinda liberating to find myself jamming out or doing some singing to keep my mind sane.
I started a job last July, doing 3 days WFH per week. In February this year we got full mandatory RTO. 😔
Oof… My condolences. How have you and your team been handling that? Begrudgingly putting up with it, or is there any chatter of finding a new gig?
I think they’re ok with it, they weren’t too keen on it at first, but they apparently prefer it now.
This is a billion-dollar company, traded on the NYSE as well, but they obviously can’t afford to make our lives better (salary increases were a joke as well, while we’re at it).
I’ve tried applying for other jobs but have had no luck so far.Ah, being with a huge company will definitely make it a lot harder to feel disgruntled I bet. Dang, best of luck with your search.
Sadly its a thing that’s becoming more and more common. Ive had multiple friends in different companies that have to go back in office. Luckily there are still some companies like the one I’m in that realize that people don’t want to have to go back in office
I also recognize that there are those who haven’t had the luxury of being remote at all, so I understand that this does come from a certain level of privilege!
Fortunately my company went virtual first pretty early in the pandemic. They must’ve seen something in their data that pointed to it being beneficial because they were pretty clear that it’s permanent.
We still have a central office with open desks that people can reserve but they’ve never pushed it on anyone.
