Okay, I’ve been doing some looking since the post about the best of '23, and I’m almost as fucking hyped as I was during the run up to 72 seasons (what? I’m fucking old lol)

So, there’s some confirmed stuff that’s supposed to be out early this year, a lot actually. But here’s my stuff that I’ll be snagging either physical copies of, or at least digital depending on my budget.

Saxon, Judas priest, korpiklani, and alestorm are automatically going to get at least a listen, even if I give away the cd. Priest is the one I’m most hyped for tbh.

Staic-x, Mobid saint, samael, and (forgive me lol) Austrian death machine, I hope will be worth getting, but I’ll be waiting until I hear something from the albums before I drop cash.

Now, that’s all confirmed stuff with an announced release date. But there’s other bands that are either in the studio, have something ready but not announced, or (and I’ll do these separate) are rumored to be working.

So, there’s been articles where band members have been quoted as working on something, and chances are good they’ll drop this year. Ghost, kreator (fuck yeah!), Testament (another fuck yeah), mudvayne, king diamond, and merciful fate. Now, I know, some of those are less certain than others to be finished and released this year for sure, but all of them have been quoted as being in the studio, actually recording for at least a month.

But rumors! Rumors are fun! The two biggest and most hype for me are Anthrax and Dimmu Borgir.

So, Anthrax, nobody has said anything in print about them being in studio. But rumors exist outside of the usual channels, and I do have a very small number of friends and family that are music business adjacent. Those rumors are that there have been new songs written, and that they may be in the studio soon. But that’s via a known name dropper, so I’m not willing to put money on it being anything that gets released this year for sure. I’m hoping though! Even their bad albums are good albums, if you’re a 'thrax fan :)

That other big one, Dimmu Borgir, everyone knows there’s going to be something. The question is when. Now, the guitarist, silenoz, has said they’re working. But he also said (I think it was on blabbermouth, but that’s whatever) that they aren’t in a hurry to just crank something out. So, I’m hoping it drops this year, but I wouldn’t bet anything significant on it. Gods know they move glacially sometimes. Which is kinda appropriate lol; lots of building pressure, then a sudden explosion like an icelandic volcano.

Then again, DB could just end up changing members fifteen times amd get nothing done at all ;).

Anyway, I don’t think '24 is going to be a bad year for metal at all!
