Does Gamestop even deal in games anymore? Or do they just exclusively sell trashed iPhones, Funko Pops, and Rick and Morty shit?

Anyhow, never trade in your games or systems to anyone. Just don’t. Not only are you not even going to get a Dixie cup full of warm spit for them, but I’ve never met anyone who did and did not eventually regret it later. Especially with the resurgence in popularity with retro gaming.

I’ve had a great time buying used games and selling my old stuff to them. Literally no reason to buy new other than having a wrapped box or getting the Nintendo points.

My son and I love going there to browse, play some games, and pick up a couple of Pokémon cards. The staff is always super nice and welcoming and don’t mind us hanging there for an hour buying nothing.

Man, the one in my town just sells Funkos and anime merch with one half wall of games.

Isn’t it weird how the bigger retailers are slowly merging together? I noticed the other day our local Kohl’s evolved into a Kohl’s+Sephora. We even had a Think Geek store for a hot minute and it eventually shuttered… Only to return as a Think Geek section (corner of shelves) in the nearby Gamestop a couple hundred feet away.

I had the same experience with the one that was in my town, it was a sad day when they closed down.

I know a lot of people point to resale as a big advantage of physical media, but I really prefer just having a digital environment that encourages frequent sales and price reductions.

If you think about memorable singleplayer games for instance (AAA or indie), they’re really victimized by that mentality of “Well, I guess I’m done with this now”. Even shitty online games, or big open-world games with 80 hours of boring content, usually won’t be re-sold in that way; and each used sale will be a lost New sale for the developer. Never forget that You are the product of GameStop’s used games business.

They take a 50% cut, at least. Ie up to $27 for Mario RPG which sells for $55 used. In practice you’ll get less unless it’s something like a popular, still-new, first-party Nintendo flagship title that has manufactured scarcity.

How do 7 games equal 100 dollars and a ps4 with psvr headset equal 110?
