Six prominent Canadian universities are facing a series of proposed class-action lawsuits with claims that Jewish students are unsafe on campus.

The list includes Queen’s University, York University, Concordia University, Toronto Metropolitan University and the University of British Columbia. The prominent Toronto-based personal injury law firm, Diamond and Diamond, has also listed many of their student unions.

Hamilton, Ont.'s McMaster University and its student union are the latest to face legal action. A statement of claim, dated Jan. 3, alleges that “McMaster University has become, for over a decade, home to systemic discrimination, harassment, hatred, antisemitism, violent discourse, and actual or threatened physical harm amongst the student body.”

This will certainly end well. /s

And all of these lawsuits are filed within days or weeks of each other.

Hell of a coincidence, ain’t it?

Reminds me of copycat legislation in state houses across the U.S.

It’s an attempt to force university administrators to repress speech about Israel committing genocide.

And it’s not necessarily limited to universities:

House Declares Anti-Zionism Is Antisemitism, Dividing Democrats

More than half of House Democrats declined to back the Republican-written resolution, as some argued that equating criticism of the state of Israel with hatred of the Jewish people went too far.

“Under this resolution, those who love Israel deeply but criticize some of its policy approaches could be considered anti-Zionist,” Representative Jerrold Nadler, Democrat of New York and the longest-serving Jewish member of the House, said in a floor speech before he voted “present.”

          The article specifically addresses this:

Zisckind says she takes no issue with free speech on campuses.

"You can disagree with Israel, you can say there needs to be a ceasefire, those are things that are tantamount to free speech, but you cannot say we need to kill the Jews,” she explains.

So do they have any evidence of someone saying that and having University administrations backing them? And no, ‘from the river to the sea’ doesn’t count.

You’re welcome; thanks for the heads up. Was not aware of that, and it wasn’t needed to get my point across anyway.

      personal injury lawyers

I don’t know if there’s anything to this litigation but their previous and current class action lawsuits seem non-frivolous. Their class action against Monsanto for Roundup causing cancer seems serious enough. A look at their list of current litigation shows them representing workers with non-paying employers (Amazon), victims of revenge porn, and victims of various privacy breaches (ex. 23andMe). The harms seem legitimate and there’s nothing you wouldn’t expect to be pursued as a class action.

It’s over. Anti Jewish sentiment has been unleashed after the recent Gaza clashes. Both the Leftists and the Right Wingers all around the world now openly hate on Israel and/or Jews. What was taboo a few months ago is now the norm. Gen Z is overwhelmingly anti-Israel. Hollywood is weakened and it’s pro-Israel propaganda is no longer swallowed. All because Israel and Netanyahu have gotten too full of themselves and alienated everyone. Playing both sides of the political spectrum has resulted in them being hated by everyone.

The conflation of criticism of Israel with antisemitism is intentional.

Shulamit Aloni was an Israeli national hero; she spent 30 years in Israeli politics and won the nation’s top civilian honor, the Israel Prize.

She was also strongly passionate about human rights and pursuing peace with Palestinians. And she fiercely criticized the Israel supporters who conflate criticism and antisemitism. She called it a “trick” that Israeli hardliners use to justify their treatment of Palestinians and deflect criticism of Israel government policy.

And it is a trick. When you criticize Russia, nobody says you must be racist against Slavs. When you criticize China, no one accused you of a deep-seated hatred of Han Chinese. But Israel supporters use accusations of antisemitism to stifle any criticism of their government - which over the past 20 years has been completely taken over by ultranationalists and zealots.

No government should be immune to criticism, including Israel’s.

Which is myopic, because it only reinforces negative stereotypes of Jews.

Jesus, pointing out that “conflating anti Jewish and anti Israel sentiments” is happening is now controversial?

OP’s merely stating that Israel’s leadership has done massive damage to both the image of the state and Jews worldwide.

Anti Jewish sentiment has been unleashed after the recent Gaza clashes.

FFS, is this not true?! Doesn’t matter if anyone agrees that it should be that way, it is that way.

You need to reread the first part of OP’s comment. HE’S the one conflating anti Jewish and anti Israel sentiments, and is being called out on it

It is scary to see such a historic shift in sentiment. No amount of lawsuits will turn this back around. The problem is not the intellectuals, but that you can’t controll a dumb mob. This will not end well.
