In 1992 the black metal band Immortal made what is considered to be one of the worst music videos of all time: Call of the Wintermoon

Immortal is actually a really great band if you like black metal, but the video is painful to watch lol

I’d love to remake that video shot for shot, but in a wooded park with ruins and there’s just regular people and tourists walking around, and nobody acknowledges the weirdness. Like you get that close up telephoto shot that quickzooms out and there’s just some guy off to the left in jeans and a windbreaker walking his dog.

Ooh, and the background people are just having normal conversations, but their lips are in sync with the lyrics.

Some of their other early videos from the 90s are pretty cringe too, but this one by far is the worst lol

I was just getting into black metal in the late 90s so I guess I completely missed this video. Lol

That’s about when I got into it too! I got a lot of the early 90s stuff when I started working at a record store in 99 and I found that the late 80s/early 90s black metal scene was a very strange place lol

I read some interviews about it, it was supposed to be a serious video. The band members said the production company only gave them 2 hours on the day of shooting and then kind of made fun of them later. They were pretty pissed at the time. If you look into the history of black metal in the early 90s they really all took it way too seriously lol

Aaron Carter’s “How I beat Shaq” is pretty hilarious. They actually got Shaq in it, but it’s clear that Aaron Carter had no idea how to play basketball. And they have to make it look like he’s better than Shaq? Yeah right

That was rough… I feel like it would be on par with a lot of other bad 80s videos if it weren’t for the so called “dancing”. That really put it over the top lol

The other video I posted made me remember what may be the actual worst video of all time. Really all of his videos are so bad they almost seem like a parody, but he was super serious about all of it lol

Watch FADADES at your own discretion

Last I saw it isn’t actually clear whether or not Fadades is parody or legitimate. Very clear in any either case that Fadades is great.

Especially within a genre like black metal where bands will make contra-conventional artistic decisions by way of course as it is, stumbling upon a vibe like this out of honest artistic expression vs. deriving it with a manifest ambiguity where the tongue seems to sprout from the cheek almost hardly matters. However Fadades came to be, it’s a monument to whatever it actually is.

He used to have an active comments section but he turned it off because most of the comments were from people saying he makes the videos in his mom’s basement.

The ‘Big Enough’ song by…someone. Like I watched it and can’t tell if it was a parody or what? It and the song were so bad, to me at least.

for me its about the contrast between an amazing song and an absurdly terrible video that in no way captures the tone or feel or quality or intent or expression of the song. for my money its depeche mode’s leave in silence.

There was a demo for a music video maybe 10 years ago, Day Day - Backseat, the video seems to have since been scrubbed from the internet and the best I could find was a thumbnail. The only things I can remember about it are the lyrics went something like “if your driver needs a rider…then you put it in my backseat” (yes, its about exactly what you think) and the guy singing it looked like a cross between Geordi LaForge an Lady Gaga.
