We may be anonymous strangers on the internet, but we have one thing in common. We may be a world apart, but we’re here together!

Welcome to the 24 hour pledge!

I’m pledging myself to not drinking today, and invite you to do the same.

Maybe you’re new to /r/stopdrinking and have a hard time deciding what to do next. Maybe you’re like me and feel you need a daily commitment or maybe you’ve been sober for a long time and want to inspire others.

It doesn’t matter if you’re still hung over from a three day bender or been sober for years, if you just woke up or have already completed a sober day. For the next 24 hours, lets not drink alcohol!

There have been hard days, even now. So many years of “rewarding” myself with a drink. I’m still undoing that in my head. My problem is paperwork. When I used to work from home, paperwork would overwhelm me and I would have to drink to get through it. Even 5 minutes worth. I still get that overwhelming feeling with a big task and have to cheer myself on…… “I’ve done this for 11 months now, I can do it again.” I am writing this after finally sitting down and filing 6 months of bill statements which honestly took 15 minutes. <facepalm>

Sometimes we can’t avoid our triggers. What tips can you offer for getting through these challenges?

    Well done!

For me it always helped to put the clock forward in my head. Then I would remember the hangovers, the regrets, the helpless feeling, etc.

I have a huge job interview today. I’m nervous as all heck, but excited as well! I really want this change. Grateful for a clear head and a great night of sleep. I will not drink poisonous alcohol today!

I’ve found staying busy helps. If I’m moving rather than sitting and watching TV or playing video games I’m distracted from the urge to drink. Especially since, being sober, I could just run out and buy some if I let me mind wander after I get home from a hard day.

The upside here is as a result I’ve gotten a lot of things done around the house.

That sucks about your job. I’m in a… tense situation right now myself at work and it’s hard to keep my mouth shut.

AA has an 8% success rate. Don’t feel bad if it doesn’t work for you.

You are here, so you must have some desire in you to stop drinking, welcome! Just one day at a time, we are here for your support!! 💜
