Maybe this is just me, but in the short time I have been here, I have changed my avatar at least five times. I’ve only been here four days. I am like this on any social media platform. Then the bio, what the hell do you write? They always say something like create an honest description. But if I’m honest, nobody will dare associate with me, just like real life. Both my avatars and any form of bio are far from the real me, I mean some of it is representative of me. If you read between the lines, but mostly it’s all rubbish. I hate the avatar and bio, and who ever invented them all those years ago, should be shot.

Am I the only one?

This isn’t Tinder, you can skip the bio and the picture if you want!

Unless there’s like a rule in your instance I guess. In which case, disregard that

I revert to humour as well. This is why I was saying in some way it’s representative of me. As comedy is a part of my life.

your bio is much better than mine though. it’s humourous, but also actually descriptive - mine’s just a link to my site and other lemmy acct.

they’re actually png’s, but either should work - it’s just markdown, so use ![alt text](image url). i use them as links as well, so they’re [![alt text](image url)](link url), which is a bit verbose but it works

they’re hosted off-site though, which may be why they work

Cheers. I also didn’t know you could get animated PNGs. Every day’s a school day.

they’re not super official. they’re easy to make and edit, designed by mozilla, usable almost everywhere, and the libpng still refuse to accept them as a real format; favouring .mng which works nowhere (even ffx dropped support), and is much larger. more (somewhat outdated) info here

png logo, spinning (animated), with the word "animated" above it
            (not my site)

I didn’t either. I tried to add one a few days ago, and it didn’t work. I was going to add this or this. Maybe it’s a size thing?

I tried to put that first one in mine and it came up as a playable video.

I managed to put one in my bio after following the instructions by @[email protected].

I hate writing about myself. I do, however, like using different avatars on different sites. The common sense thing to do would be to use the same avatar on different sites so people know it’s you (my Mastodon one is very similar to my Twitter one so migrating people will hopefully recognise me). Especially on the Fediverse where I have a Mastodon, Bookwyrm, Kbin and Lemmy account, all with different avatars and usernames. My bio tells you about my other accounts! Or at least it tells you about some of them. This one (well, you can check it yourself) has some meta text about my avatars, my Lemmy one just describes the avatar, and on Mastodon it’s “rescuing princesses since tea-time”. Something I thought of for Twitter many years ago. I changed it there eventually, but decided to resurrect it.

I tend to close one social media account when opening another elsewhere. So my huge fanbase can’t follow me. Every place has a different avatar and bio, but all are pretty silly.
