One question that I have is why? I mean I could see right-wing freaks wanting to conquer some land, but why do the regular Israeli people still do/support this shit? If they did, Netanyahu would have been out a long time ago. I don’t think some land is worth this crisis.

Maybe you’re too young to remember, but the exact same thing happened in the US after 9/11

The vast majority of people are only seeing what they’re encouraged to see on their mainstream news channels. They don’t necessarily support it, they don’t even know this shit is happening. People supported the so-called “war on terror” long after it was clear it was wrong.

It must be so difficult to recognise the difference between agenda driven propaganda and genuine reporting, especially if the infrastructure for free press isn’t there. It’s really sad when you think about it

“Free press” is a myth tbh

Profitable news media has to appease its owners and sponsors and inside sources and viewers; they self-censor in order to maximize viewership and not offend their owners or sponsors or inside sources. Public media isn’t much better, since they’re still reliant on donors and government support. Independent not-for-profit media is good, but while they tell the truth their resources are smaller than the rest. Big social media is algorithmic garbage that is meant to drive engagement and has no interest in actually informing the public about anything.

But on the bright side, the free press has never really existed, so really we’re not worse off than any other point in history lol

The average Israeli citizen has been fed propaganda that rivals Russia since day one framing all their nations actions as defensive and necessary. And (broadly speaking) until this war only a few states would argue against this.

It also goes deeper than I initially knew, and Israeli schools and Israeli media fully include Gaza and the west bank wholly as part of Israeli, leading to a belief it is “occupied” by Palestinians, as well as teaching and reporting on Palestine only as terrorists, while enforcing this apartheid state.

So you have now generations of Israelis raised on this, gleefully committing war crimes because they believe it is rightful and just because the Palestinians are all Hamas. Yes even the children.

The level of Propaganda and how successful it has been is horrifying. This was the deliberate goal of the extreme Zionists in Israel, and their success means horrifying things for the world.

But shouldn’t the people who live in the west bank have a better idea? Probably not a big enough to influence elections but I have also heard that Palestinians in west bank are regularly abused by Israeli civilians

Israelis who live in the West Bank are settlers. These are people who burn down Palestinians’ homes/shoot them and take their land, or children of those people. Not exactly the most moral demographic.

The West Bank settlers who are old enough yes, but many of the last 30 years have lived in a reality where they are “reclaiming” “historic” Israel by doing this. And they view it through a righteous lens, which is reinforced explicitly by religious Zionism as well. So they are mean or cruel to Palestinians, who they view as “squatters”.

Despite the lack of historical basis for any of this. The propaganda has gone deep, and by being infused with the official state religion, you wind up being unable to challenge any of it without yourself being labeled as self-hating or anti-semetic. It’s a gordian knot of persecution that the deeply conservative Israeli Zionist have intentionally made.

It has so far been so effective that it has taken sustained war crimes and tragedy for over 3 months with live video evidence to even begin to chip away at in Jewish communities that maybe the Israeli Government and the faith shouldn’t be talked about as the same thing.

You say “but” as if you’re disagreeing with the parent commenter, but you’re talking about the same thing.

His two sentences weren’t drawing a distinction between “settlers” and some other group attacking Palestinians; he was saying that the settlers are the ones attacking Palestinians.

Why? Because if you destroy Homes, Infrastructure and Historical, Cultural landmarks then you emphasise the notion that the Palestinians will never return. There is nothing to rebuild. It is smart but also, very evil. They – goverment, IDF, etc – know exactly wha they are doing.

Many Israelis do not support this. Not all Jews are Zionists. There ARE protests against it, Western media generally will not show them. Israeli media will not report on it much, it is part of conteolled media via censorship. It is called HASBARA. The goverment calls it “explaining,” but it is essentially propaganda via selected news and censorship.

But Bibi has his supporters. Generally, very Conservative Jews, Orthodox and the ones who think they are walking victims screaming “We lived in a Holocaust!!!” Every 5 minutes, the ones who label any sort or all criticism as anti-semetic.

The Israeli public wants their Lebensraum. I thought that became clear in 1949.
