Hey all my boyfriend wants to do shrooms for his bday and I wanted to drop a question in here as I’ll be trip sitting. I have never done any psychedelic myself, i only smoke weed.

He’s done shrooms before and says he “usually starts with a little over 1.5g and then takes 3.5g an hour or so in”. He’ll be taking PE and maybe one GT — both of which I grew last year.

Personally 5g of PE in an hour sounds like a lot to me but I don’t have any evidence to back that up.

Anyone suggest starting lower?

Personally I wouldn’t split the dosage. If it’s about nausea, get some candied ginger to eat if it becomes an issue. Mushrooms have a long come up, so the split dose will make for a longer trip, but not necessarily as heavy as taking them all at once.

5g is on the higher end of dosage, but if he’s experienced and taken similar doses before it will be fine.

I’m not entirely sure why he wants to split it he just said that’s what he did last time

He might be going for the extended length I’ll ask

I would definitely recommend going for the full 5g at once if he wants a heavy trip, or 3.5g at once if he wants a more moderate trip. I think everyone should experience a 5g trip at least once.

Personally I tend to prefer light to moderate experiences, but every now and then I’ll be in the mood for something deeper.

There are so many different variables, honestly. If you Google for a shroom dosage chart, that only applies to the first dose. Everything else after that first dose is just a bag of unknowns.

Between 2.5g and 3g is a moderate to heavy dose, usually. Once you get into the 4.5g or more, you start to get into breakthrough territory. I grow shrooms and eat them quite often and a breakthrough dose is intense, even for me. (I have had in upwards of 15g or more over the course of eight hours or so, as dosages can be managed, but there is a catch.)

With someone who is experienced, 5g over the course of an hour is a decent pace. If you know your trips, you can stretch out the peaks a little longer that way. However, it’s a game of diminishing returns just because how serotonin receptors get saturated.

If I am going for a long trip, I’ll just about double-down about half way through the initial trip. If I start at 2g, I’ll take 4g a couple hours in as that is about the only way to stay at the same intensity level. Like I mentioned before, once the serotonin receptors start to get saturated it takes larger and larger doses to feel anything more.

It gets expensive and wasteful, IMHO. I have found that it’s more effective to plan the first dose around how high I want that initial peak. Everything after that is usually less intense and just extends the “after glow”, not the actual trip.

It’s a weird game, TBH. You just have to know your own body and nothing anyone says here really applies. That absolutely includes me trying to compare my own experiences. Mushrooms are just hard to dose, s’all.

I have had a bad trip at 3.5g, and life changing experiences at 2.5g. +5g is where my visual acuity is completely destroyed and I just lay in bed because I am stuck in geometric jail. It’s such a person-to-person and trip-to-trip experience.

I took that advice on my first trip and I know my experience isn’t universal, but I didn’t end up caring for shrooms and avoided em for years.

Those small dose chocolates tho? Love those. I’ll take those on a weekend vacation easy.

@GoddessOfGouda I also would say that splitting the dosage doesn’t really makes a difference with shrooms, it only makes the trip longer.

If he did it before and he is confident he can handle that dosage (not for first timers I’d say) there is no need to delay… which makes me think: are you sure he took that much before?
Rule number one is be honest with your sitter: you have the right to know what to expect. That’s the all point of having a sitter.

Good vibes to both of you. :)

My first experience was 3.5 g from the start, intense but was fun and a good way to know how it feels like while remaining mostly cognizant. I was very very open to the experience tho, if ur trepidatious, I’d suggest 2 -2.5 g first time in one dose
