            Here’s a big one:

The 1987 repeal of the fairness doctrine enabled the rise of talk radio that has been described as “unfiltered” divisive and/or vicious: "In 1988, a savvy former ABC Radio executive named Ed McLaughlin signed Rush Limbaugh — then working at a little-known Sacramento station — to a nationwide syndication contract.

That shit really worked though. reagan used to be a punchline in our house back in the 80’s and 90’s (was default family knowledge that he was essentially a supervillain). These days, at least to certain relatives, he’s now basically a saint.

                Propaganda works. Period.

Hitler knew it. Reagan knew it. Rupert Murdoch lives it every day. We are doomed to be fucked as long as corporate media rules.

Every time the FDA or another federal agency does something really asinine, I always wonder if it’s Trump holdovers. Biden should have forced a comprehensive audit of all federal agencies and review who was appointed by Trump and who those appointees hired to whatever level of management is appropriate. Trump deliberately appointed people who were against the roles and responsibilities of the agencies they were running, and so the people they hired likewise should have been reviewed. I know there’s some limits to what the president can do for judges and some other positions, but Trump has literally stated he’s going to burn it all down and fire everyone in the government that’s not a full blown Trumpist.

        We won’t recover from that.

A Disney spokesperson told CNBC Wednesday, “This is an important case with serious implications for the rule of law, and it will not end here.”

The spokesperson also said that if the ruling were “left unchallenged, this would set a dangerous precedent and give license to states to weaponize their official powers to punish the expression of political viewpoints they disagree with.”

“We are determined to press forward with our case.”

I’m all on board with fuck Disney, but this time they were right. They are only trying to do the right thing because it’s more profitable for then currently, but it’s still right. It’s like the article I read the other day by Cato about how fucked up the immigration system is in the states. I know Cato only cares because they see a profit angle, but it is bizarro world when I’m agreeing with Cato.

The Florida governor has made this very clear. Florida doesn’t want Disney in their state. Disney should move to a state that would love and appreciate the incredible amount of business they bring.

Disney should move to a state that won’t punish them because they treat LGBTQ folks and other vulnerable groups like human beings. They should move somewhere that won’t be an active, hostile threat to their business and patrons.

Florida doesn’t deserve Disney and Disney should not continue to benefit Florida with their presence. There are many eastern states normal people still feel safe to visit. Florida is not one of them. Do the U.S. a favor, Disney. Move already!

You know how big Disney World is? You can fit Disney Land into one of its parking lots. Walt bought that 27,000 acres for a dime on the dollar. It’ll be there when Ron DeSantis is long gone. Here’s a tip…never bet against the mouse.

That’s great! That makes it even more profitable to sell. They can slowly sell off the land as they launch operations in a normal state.

They can still be major land-holders long after lil Ronny is gone. And the cheaply-bought land can serve as another example of the damage lil Ronny did. They can even have signs on the land saying “lil Ronny Go-Go Boots Did This” until it sells.

Also, consider the number of people employed by the mouse (over 263,000 about 12% of central Florida) if Disney were to pack up and go a ton of hotels would be left without customers, putting even more people out of work. Disney IS central Florida

Yes. Exactly. Disney shouldn’t prop up Florida’s economy.

Fuck Disney for staying and continuing to benefit a grotesque infestation of conservativism. That state is in desperate need of a cleansing.

Nah, those signs staying are part of the contract on the land sale and can only be removed if some obscure never to happen thing happens so it’s legally valid to stay forever.

They kind of already do/are. Disney- the big one, parent company of all the other operations, has a ton of divisions and independent operations. Most of them are in California. There was a plan to invest a billion dollars into an expansion into Florida last year that was canceled quite openly because of Florida politics. The only major piece of Disney that’s in Florida is Disney World, and its associated other offerings.

Now, if we were to consider the possibility of moving that, even ignoring the extraordinary cost to do so, we must first find a place to move it to. Geography is very important here- between Disney Land in California and Disney World in Florida, most Americans are within about a day’s drive. It’s also far enough south that it can operate year-round. This makes it a popular spot for us northerners to go to in the winter.

Georgia might be an option now, but it could only work outside of (but near) Atlanta. This is itself risky, since Georgia has and continues to push many of the same problematic right-wing and proto-fascist laws. But where else? You end up going pretty far north to Virginia before you get any semi-reliable assurances. Could a theme park work in a Virginia winter?

Texas might (very questionable) be safe due to their worship of corporations, but it goes very far west. That makes it a lot more difficult for those lucrative New Englanders, particularly New Yorkers. It also cuts into the audience for Disney Land.

Disney is a greedy corporation. They will operate Disney World however they can make the most profit. They might get creative- for instance, divesting the park and charging exorbitant licensing fees for whoever takes up the operations. This is similar to Hollywood accounting and how every movie loses money on paper. But if it comes down to it, they would stop any LGBTQ+ support if that ends up being more profitable.

You may have heard the stories that Walt himself was an anti-semite. He wasn’t, per se. He just had no problems running his business in a way that he could still sell movies to Nazi Germany.
