When most people think of the Vita they think of the only real PlayStation hardware to flop. But for those of that owned, and still own a Vita it’s quite possibly the best handheld ever made.

The games are amazing, the console in comfortable to hold and that OLED screen is absolutely stunning. Some games that are available on PS4 are sometimes best played on the Vita. Crypt of the Necrodancer is one example. It’s colours pop a lot more on the Vita and it’s just more fun too.

But if you haven’t played Fall Guys via remote play then do yourself a favour and try it. Fall Guys was made for the Vita. It suits the handheld perfectly for a quick session when perhaps the TV is otherwise engaged with the little spawns watching Peppa Spongbob The Builder or whatever kids watch these days.

In fact the Vita is so good and was so ahead of it’s time Sony could start producing them again now in 2023 and releasing games and it would still be one hell of a good system.

It’s such a massive shame the Vita was abandoned by Sony so quickly.

Maybe you don’t agree and maybe I just have a soft spot for “failed” hardware. I still regularly use my Wii U to this day, more so even than my Switch but that’s a story for another community.

The homebrew scene for the Vita is also great. People are still producing applications for it. For emulation it was still a lot of people’s go-to up until devices were able to play N64.

I like the Vita but I found I wasn’t a big fan of a lot of the games produced for it. The lack dual triggers is also frustrating for remote play.

I don’t know about the homebrew as I keep mine stock so I can earn trophies in my account without worrying about have the account suspended.

I don’t think you get banned. I’ve used a modded PS3 and Vita for years and nothing has come of it.

As far as I know there’s never been a case of someone getting banned for having a modded Vita. There’s some rumors of people getting banned for unlocking trophies with mods but I think that’s about it

I bought a grip that has the dual triggers that contact the back pads of the vita. It works really well.

Can’t play the vita without it now though. Just feels like the poor thing will slip out of my hands…

I love my Vita, it has its quirks but it’s just about perfect for what it is. Some of the games it has still blow my mind, like Borderlands 2. It’s also my favorite device for emulation. Outside of modern handheld PCs like the Steam Deck there isn’t a better option for general retro gaming.

I firmly believe Sony killed it with those proprietary memory cards. That was definitely the #1 reason why I opted for the 3DS. Sony’s betting on their own stupid formats sometimes paid off, but by that time SD cards were the absolute standard everyone had tons of at home, and Sony massively miscalculated.

It sounds like a little thing, but the cost of those cards was also wild. It just felt like Sony’s fuck-you to customers.

I find it odd that Vita doesn’t have its own comm here, just for hacks. I never had one, but it looks like a fun system. At some point I was considering getting the PSTV at least.

Always loved the Vita. It’s probably my favourite PlayStation console I ever had!

I never had it, the PSP still is so cool in my opinion, one day I’ll get my hands on a Vita

The PSP is cool. I still use mine as I buy physical games for it. The only problem I have with it is it’s size. It’s a bit small for my hands so after an hour or so I start cramping up.
