How do you generally level up your gear if you have a good synergy going? I mostly find myself just putting almost all of my scrolls into my weapon, even if i have wands, rings, etc. that work well with it

I like putting SoU into rings because they scale exponentially with upgrades. You get diminishing returns with weapons and armor.
This is what I do. Only if I get a good ring though, like evasion or wealth. Haste and furor might be with 3 or so scrolls.
Unless I get something really good I usually save my upgrades for my endgame weapon and armor. Just for the wizard I put my first six scrolls into his wand. But I wait to see if I can find a +1 or +2 wand in the first two areas.
