Not saying I expect this ceasefire will work out, but the headline did make me think it would really suck to self immolate for nothing

If the ceasefire does happen, some could argue that the self immolation was the trigger. I doubt both things though…

Guess those UN resolutions the US keeps vetoing are just to soon to end the genocide. Not that it matters since Bibi has made it clear Israel is going into Rafa no matter what anyone says.

So I just looked it up and their proposal is for a temporary ceasefire and the release of all hostages, which accomplishes less than nothing. It also lacks teeth from what I’ve understood.

There’s no logical reason for Biden to be saying this.

Israel said it’s not happening and Hamas hasn’t responded.

Biden is either lying for good press to make it sound like he’s doing stuff behind the scenes, or so far gone he believes it.

You’re ignoring Option 3: he has access to information none of us do. However cynical one might be, that is a plausible option, and you can’t ignore it and claim it’s illogical to say what he said.

Only time will reveal if his statement is justified.

he has access to information none of us do.

Such as who’s sending the weapons and funding for the genocide while pretending in public statements to working for peace?

Oh wait, we DO all know that that’s the Biden administration! Hell, Biden himself bypassed standard procedure to EXPEDITE arms shipments to Israel twice in December alone!

Until he stops sending the bombs and the money used to commit the atrocities, he deserves NO credit for his tepid public statements about the extremely remote possibility of a ceasefire. None whatsoever.

Bruh, congratulations on taking a point about being rational and intellectually honest and turning it into your own personal, irrelevant soapbox. Well done.

Yeah, because doing your damndest to make sure that the Israeli government gets weapons and funding with which to commit genocide while publicly pretending to be the voice of moderation is REALLY intellectually honest and not at all relevant to whether or not he has any credibility on the matter!

Do you actually work for the pr team of the White House or are you arguing in bad faith for free?

Also the headline makes the quote sound more certain than his actual statement was, which probably isn’t helping.

‘I hope by the end of the weekend. My national security advisor tells me that we’re close, we’re close, we’re not done yet. My hope is by next Monday we’ll have a ceasefire’

I don’t see that being the case tbh. Netanyahu said the IDF would enter Rafah, ceasefire or no ceasefire. And Hamas stated they wouldn’t accept any temporary ceasefire agreements. While Netanyahu could be pressured by Biden to change his position (though I doubt it), there’s just no reason for Hamas to accept an agreement that doesn’t prevent Israel from continuing their genocide next month.

I tend to agree based on past statements, but I’m also not privy to the privileged information of the intelligence community or people’s changing motivations.

We will have to wait and see. Making a prediction upon potentially incomplete information is barely better than a random guess.
