Take a look at this same post, from four different instances:

From the server it was originally posted on (currently at 9 comments): https://lemmy.ml/post/1244889

lemmy.world (8 comments): https://lemmy.world/post/112477

beehaw.org (10 comments): https://beehaw.org/post/542091

sh.itjust.works (5 comments): https://sh.itjust.works/post/79680

This just doesn’t make sense to me. I thought the entire point of all of this was that you get the same content regardless of which instance you’re on. But clearly, I’m seeing wildly different results. Why?

I could be wrong, but I think this has to do with server load, all of these instances are trying to synchronize between each other and some of them are keeping up better than others.

I posted this same post on r/redditalternatives and got a similar response, that lemmy.ml is going through it right now and causing sync issues.

Just makes me paranoid that whichever instance I browse Lemmy from, I’ll be missing some content.

Yeah if this is happening it might explain the super confusing experience I’ve had trying to set up my own instance.

Hasn’t .ml have had uptime issues? The other 3 instances have defederated from each other I believe.
