Probably just at a bit of an angle so one side is too thin/thick. At least that’s what usually happens to me.
I’ve never even experienced an opportunity to cut a hamburger bun in half. They’re always pre-cut. Where are you finding these fancy DIY-to-cut hamburger buns?
Go to a local grocery store with a bakery section. In my experience those are never cut. Also the brioche buns at Aldi
