If they use this as an excuse to get a mistrial, I’ll lose my shit.

Ugh, they’re not sure what the motivation is, but I can’t help but wonder if these hackers are Russian state actors or affiliated and want to do exactly that.

In a message posted online Saturday, in both English and Russian, the hacking group called LockBit said the stolen documents “contain a lot of interesting things and Donald Trump’s court cases that could affect the upcoming US election.”

Seems like it. I wouldn’t put it past them to fabricate documents that make it look like the prosecution is more malicious than it is.

Close, it’s Return The Fucking Armadillo.

That’s what the ransom is about. “I have a very particular set of skills: if you don’t return my fucking armadillo you’ll find out what they are.”

There is no reason to think this would be legitimate grounds for a mistrial, although Trump’s team will probably pretend like it is.

    New Trump defense strategy.

    • Step 1: Leak documents acquired through discovery to Russian allies.
    • Step 2: Have allies demand ransom to not release documents and then (maybe) release them when they don’t get paid.
    • Step 3: Wail like a toddler about how unfairly you’ve been treated and get a mistrial or get the trial delayed .

Either a mistrial or a delay would very much work to Trump’s advantage. Plus, he can fund raise off this to get yet more money from the rubes.

Also, it’s my understanding that Russian hackers know better than to step on daddy Putin’s toes, unless you like poison tea or short flights out high windows. Why would Russian actors suddenly turn on Trump when they’ve been using him successfully for decades? My money says this is just for show.—

Don’t forget Step 4: insert a few fake documents amidst the real ones. A few fake invoices for services between the prosecutors could back up the fiction that the Georgia DA was corrupt.

This tactic was reportedly what happened in the “Russia, If you are listening” packets that Putin dropped. Russia is at war with the US. I am going by evidence of their previous tactics.

Why would anyone believe the FSB?

I won the local Bad Decisions Championship 9 of the last 10 years.

The reason I didn’t win last year was because I stayed up all night watching YouTube reaction videos and slept through the competition, so I consider it a moral victory.

Are they blackmailing Trump? Or Georgia?

Either way it’s probably going to come out in trial anyhow.

So… correct me if I’m wrong, but won’t they easily find out that Trump’s team and/or allies got/leaked the docs and how? I mean, he’s tried dumb shit before, but hasn’t history shown enough times that stealing government documents never grants results in your favor?

Because the Georgia case is at real risk of being halted due to events having nothing to do with the merits of the case.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The hacking group responsible for taking down Fulton County’s websites in Georgia is threatening to publish documents from the state’s court system — including ones related to the criminal case against Donald Trump — unless it gets paid a ransom.

In a message posted online Saturday, in both English and Russian, the hacking group called LockBit said the stolen documents “contain a lot of interesting things and Donald Trump’s court cases that could affect the upcoming US election.”

Its targets in recent years include Boeing, the UK’s National Health Service and Royal Mail, and the state-owned Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has charged the former president and more than a dozen of his allies with racketeering in connection to the attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 federal election in Georgia.

George Chidi, an Atlanta-based independent journalist, reported earlier this month that a sampling of files published by LockBit includes sealed court records in other unrelated cases.

A judge is hearing testimony from several of her associates — and Willis herself — over the question of whether the district attorney had an improper relationship with a prosecutor she hired to work on the Trump case.

The original article contains 1,266 words, the summary contains 203 words. Saved 84%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!

Evidence that is going to come out in court anyhow isn’t grounds for a mistrial.

    And non-evidence would be irrelevant.
