It’s generally ill-advised to put any cultural decoration on your car, no matter how benign.

Yet Utah encourages drivers to put the “in God we Trust” license plate on their vehicles. I can’t put anything on mine about being an atheist without getting nasty comments, but they can put their superstitious nonsense all over the place and in my face constantly.

I had a Christian tell me “the reason I don’t kill you is because of god”

I responded with, “i don’t need god to not want to kill you”

Then they said, “that’s just god protecting me from you”

        Nut jobs.

If there is any such thing as a god, and for god’s sake you should all be hoping there is not, that god’s job most likely does not include protecting you or anyone else. Nowhere in the bible or anywhere else does it say that the “christian god’s” job is to protect humans or keep bad things from happening to them. And any real god would be something so awesome (awe as in the sense of “terrifying”) and dangerous that you’d never ever want to bow down to it or worship it in any form.

You’d be lucky if all they do is scratch your car. More likely they’ll shoot into your car at your 3-year old and then say you threatened them to justify it. That’s “Christian” values, at least it’s what they amount to here in our country.

It’s like the “In God We Trust” license plate people can choose to put on their cars here in Utah. It’s kind of an afront to people like me or anyone who isn’t Christian in their beliefs, and who believe more strongly in the power of man than in the power of some supernatural being. I most certainly do NOT “trust in God.” I trust in human ingenuity and strength because that’s all that we really have to make use of on this planet.

You can take that two ways, you know.

The believer would say that there is no hate that can’t be overcome by the love of Christ.

The believer is a huge sucker if they think “Jesus” actually existed.

We were chatting recently, and I realized that no one ever taught me that there were monsters coming into my bedroom at night. I just knew it. I believe it’s in our DNA to think that there are angles and devils out there. A few folks figured out how to make money off the idea.

At least, that you can remember. I had recurring nightmares about the chase scene from The Shining during my childhood and adolescence even though I’d never seen it, then saw the film again as a teen and it all made sense. I can only assume I watched it with my dad at a point when I was still young enough that I wasn’t forming long-term memories, so that terror hung out in my subconscious.

But, you’re absolutely right in that our species fills those unknown spaces with make believe. We always have and always will.

you evolved for hundreds of thousands of years to fear the dark. 2000 tears is not neraly enough for something to be stored in your DNA, and NOTHING will be stored, unless it makes a real difference in you ability to have offspring.

Nope, apparently Jesus doesn’t like it if you take it both ways.

      Stupid sexy Jesus paintings.

And yet those same believers spread hate everywhere and do it in the “name” of their “religious freedom.” (though there is no passage in any Christian text that says your religious beliefs allow you to hate others). Apparently bigotry and ignorance are kinds of hate that are so large, they cannot be overcome by any love of Christ, and in fact seem to be exacerbated by it.
