German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Saturday promised a full investigation after what appeared to be a recording of confidential army talks on the Ukraine war was posted on Russian social media, in a potentially huge embarrassment for Berlin.
Apparently the leak happened because the discussion took place over an unsecured Webex call which is damning but at least means it’s not a bug or inside source. Still awful security awareness.
Germany should not use Cisco’s WebEx at all but someone in charge probably got some money from the company for it. And since no one has a clue about the internet and encryption, there wasn’t anyone to question such a decision. Just all in all stupid but kinda fitting the stereotype of the “Neuland” that is the internet.
The Bundeswehr has an encrypted messenger that is capable of conference calls.
It’s based on matrix/Element.
No idea why they decided not to use it.

This entire topic has absolutely nothing to do with radios.
This is pretty embarrassing. Especially because it was released like it was.
I wonder if this was done now to distract from Scholz publicly talking about those systems in a way that accused France and the UK of direct participation in the war.
Really good insight. The timing is too coincidental
